Q. Accidentally, I ate a small piece of paper. What to do now?

Hi doctor,

I accidentally ate a small piece of paper last night. I drank plenty of water and also ate normal food, but still I can feel it. What to do?

Welcome to dr.sitehome.info.

I can realize the sensitivity of the issues you have right now. But do not worry as there is nothing that cannot be managed.

  • What happened is, your throat superficial layer (mucosa) has been denuded due to the raw and dry paper surface and the chemicals that have caused irritation in that area. That is why you still feel the same as there is a paper inside the throat.
  • You have to take lukewarm water with salt mixed in it. Gargle with this water five to six times a day. Allow water to touch as deep in throat as possible. This will soothe your throat and will help you to get symptom relief faster.
  • I suggest you to take allergy tablet like Claritin (Loratadine) twice a day only for three days.
  • If you feel pain, then take Ibuprofen 400 mg twice a day after meals. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicine with their consent.
