Q. Is it fine to have sex without bleeding?

I am an 18 year old female who is currently sexually active. Last year, I had sex multiple times with only one person and everything was fine. Recently, I had sex with a my new partner. During intercourse I started to bleed. I went to see a doctor and she said it could be the result of getting my period. She also said that my vagina just looked irritated. The day after that there is no sign of blood. I was just wondering what is actually wrong with my body. I got tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia and both were normal. Is it fine to have sex without bleeding?

Welcome to dr.sitehome.info.

  • It is not necessary that you would have bleeding each time you have intercourse.
  • As your doctor mentioned, it may happen if you were about to have periods. It is also seen with pregnancy, severe infection, cervical polyp or tear.
  • I understand that your pelvic exam was normal, which is a very good sign and points towards a benign etiology.
  • Since you were having pain during intercourse, I would suggest you watch your symptoms once your periods are over.
  • If your symptoms persist get tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia. I know you got tested but I was not sure if it was done recently.
