Q. What can cause severe tiredness?

Hi doctor,

I have been concerned about my tiredness. Before, I could stay up all night, but now I cannot. I have no idea what it is. Sometimes, when I get home I get really tired and take a nap. When I take a nap in the afternoon I sometimes wake up feeling shaky and feel horrible. Even after the nap I still feel tired. Then when it is time to go to bed I fall asleep so quickly. I do not know if it is just me getting older or some disorder. Can you give some answer on what it could be?

Welcome to dr.sitehome.info.

I have gone through all the data you have posted.

  • As you are a female and worried about increased fatigability my first differential diagnosis would be low hemoglobin.
  • It is common to have low hemoglobin in females due to menstrual blood loss. Kindly do complete blood picture with peripheral smear.
  • Second possibility would be hypothyroidism, which is again common if females especially if there is a family history.
  • So, kindly do CBP with peripheral smear and thyroid profile and update me with reports.
  • Kindly be relaxed and decrease stressors. It does not look like you have a big problem.
  • If the above reports are normal and even then you have similar problems then you need to consult a general physician for clinical examination which will help in diagnosis.
